BEACH & BAY COTTAGE TOUR SNEAK PEEK #9

New Home Overlooking the Salt Pond

Having grown up in Sussex County and worked as local pool lifeguards, it was natural that the new three bedroom home that the owners designed and built would reflect the historic influence of the area. Tucked away on a narrow lane directly overlooking the Salt Pond, the one level home is deceptively simple at first glance. Red cedar shingles and an open front porch lined with natural wood rockers and a porch swing summon images of old Bethany Beach cottages, while the modern influence of simple horizontal lines and reduced exterior trim hint at the contemporary styling that awaits inside.

From the African mahogany front door, the entry hall leads past a stylishly wallpapered bar and adjacent atrium to an expansive open living space overlooking a wide three season screened porch with inviting views of the pool and Salt Pond beyond. Natural wood board and batten ceilings, a soft neutral color palate, retro lighting and sleek custom white oak cabinetry lean heavily towards mid-century modern styling while gold veining in the quartz kitchen island and coordinating accessories add a subtle touch of glam.

This distinctive home has many special features, including a bar that has a unique live edge walnut countertop from the Old Wood Company and distinctive textured floral wallpaper from Concord Wallcovering. Also of note is the atrium with a fire pit and live trellis wall which are intended to pair with the bar so that an evening with friends can be spent right in that area without needing to go elsewhere. Another unique feature are the four “hidden” doors in the house that can seamlessly close off certain areas when entertaining (kids’ area, office, laundry, and main bedroom). The lap pool was sized and sited so that the view of the Salt Pond would not be blocked by a railing

This is just one of the outstanding properties that will be viewed by those who purchase tickets for the 32nd Beach & Bay Cottage Tour. This week’s home is one of the 6 homes on the 32nd Tour that will be available for in-person tours by holders of Combo tickets. And, like all 10 homes on the 2024 tour, this home will also be available to be seen virtually by holders of both Combo and Virtual tickets. Each of the 10 homes will feature a professionally produced video which will offer Tour patrons with an opportunity to view each home as often as they want from anywhere during the three-week virtual tour period. Special features include bird’s-eye drone video footage and the ability to view the Tour on any internet-enabled device.
