BEACH & BAY COTTAGE TOUR SNEAK PEEK #2

Waterfront Haven on the Creek

After owning a vacation home in Selbyville, the owners wanted to find a location in the area that would be ideally suited for retirement several years away. Avid boaters, their wish list included a dock, a view of Roy Creek, and a home large enough to share with family and friends. In 2017, they bought and renovated a waterfront home built in 2007 in the coastal community of Keenwick on the Bay. The renovation, completed in 2020, sought to maximize space, modernize the kitchen and bathrooms, and highlight coastal views.

Guided by their boating experience, the owners created a home with minimal maintenance and a modern, uncluttered aesthetic. As she jokingly remarked, they intentionally avoided anything “fuzzy or fragile.” They chose durable materials for the interior and exterior, noting the practical concerns of living on a bay. They added a spectacular rooftop deck large enough to accommodate festive gatherings and private enough to provide a quiet retreat while enjoying the extraordinary view. The owners also moved the primary bedroom from the street side to the bay side and expanded outdoor porches with retractable screens, so all might enjoy the coastal views.

The owners selected colors, furnishings, and lighting which have meaning to them and make the home feel welcoming and calm. The color palette was based upon their daughter’s grammar school portrait of Ariel, the famed Disney mermaid, prominently displayed in the open, family space. Unique wood consoles, bureaus, and smaller pieces are perfectly sized for each space. The lighting elements are often found on boats. The five guest bedrooms, each unique in décor, exude an atmosphere of peaceful comfort. The owner’s love of knitting is showcased in a pair of ceramic lamps decorated with knitting motifs in a guest bedroom, as well as a cozy knitting nook in the primary bedroom.

This is just one of the outstanding properties that will be viewed by those who purchase tickets for the 32nd Beach & Bay Cottage Tour. And, like all 10 homes on the 2024 tour, this home will also be available to be seen virtually by holders of both Combo and Virtual tickets. Each of the 10 homes will feature a professionally produced video which will offer Tour patrons with an  opportunity to view each home as often as they want from anywhere during the three-week virtual tour period. Special features include bird’s-eye drone video footage and the ability to view the Tour on any internet-enabled device.

The 32nd Beach & Bay Cottage Tour is proudly presented by Leslie Kopp and The Leslie Kopp Group and this week’s home is sponsored by Platinum sponsor, Sea Light Design-Build, who did the renovation of this beautiful waterfront home.
